Biography
Having completed a BA (Hons) in Fine Art at Hornsey School of Art, Mehdi went on to study an MA in Film Studies at the Royal College of Art in London. Along with the Iranian culture with which he was brought up, his training as an artist has always informed his directorial vision, whilst also shaping and developing his career.
Mehdi has been an A-List director for many years and has been named as one of the top 30 Commercial Directors by D&AD. His work is sophisticated, soulful and striking. He has made feature film, shorts and spots all over the world and he continues to do so, building a wide and creative international support base as he goes.
He has worked with some of the biggest names in advertising and his knowledge and reputation as a highly involved director and perfectionist is unquestionable. His high profile and award-winning work includes directing for brands such as Mercedes, Audi, Adidas, Reebok, Nike and Sony, as well as working with celebrities such as Kate Moss, David Beckham, Zidane, Denis Hopper and Harvey Keitel.
Through his work, Mehdi seeks to project the magical humane moments of happiness and madness, of energy and love, making his work both relatable and accessible. In 2003, he finished his first feature Leo, starring Joseph Fiennes, Elizabeth Shue, Dennis Hopper and Sam Shepard. It gained various acclaim as “a well-written drama of psychological depth” and “a fluidly made character puzzle”. His short Killing Joe was recognized by the Academy and nominated for an Oscar for Best Short Film. It also won numerous awards.
